COMET at the National Weather Association (NWA) Annual Meeting. Our team headed to Irving, TX, for the NWA meeting to showcase our poster, “Engaging the Weather Community to Understand Training Needs and Unlock New Learning Strategies,” and to engage attendees in a survey on the future of MetEd at our booth.
COMET kicks off the 7th Pacific Meteorological Council Meeting (PMC-7). As a prelude to PMC-7 in Vanuatu, COMET held a 1-day workshop on the 3D-Printed Automatic Weather Station (3D-PAWS). Technicians from Pacific island nations assembled weather instruments and built a complete station in this hands-on workshop.
COMET launches its first 3D-PAWS Regional Training Center! The COMET team facilitated the first 3D-PAWS Regional Training Workshop in Barbados in August. The Barbados Meteorological Service will serve as a 3D-PAWS regional training center across the region.
Congratulations to Keliann LaConte! COMET’s own educational designer Keliann LaConte was awarded the UCAR President’s Leadership Fellowship. She will serve on UCAR’s senior leadership team in 2025.
COMET welcomes Dr. Robin Tanamachi! Dr. Tanamachi comes to us from Purdue University for the next academic year. COMET is working with her on a series of new radar lessons funded by the National Science Foundation.
COMET in Zimbabwe. The COMET team led a two-week 3D-PAWS training program in Zimbabwe this August for the Zimbabwe Meteorological Service Department.
COMET facilitates the Pacific PREPARE Early Warning Workshop. The COMET team supported the Pacific PREPARE Drought and Flood Early Warning for Central Pacific Islands workshop in Nadi, Fiji, in July. These workshops are a part of President Biden’s Presidents’ Emergency Pan for Adaption and Resilience (PREPARE) initiative.
COMET trains the Turkish State Meteorological Service (TSMS). We welcomed meteorologists from the Turkish Met Service for a 10-day 3D PAWS Train-the-Trainer session in Boulder, CO, in May. TSMS will become a regional training and fabrication center as part of the existing WMO Regional Training Center.
